Road Hockey Volunteers

The optimist club is looking for volunteers for the road hockey event on May 12th. 

If you are able to help out on May 12th, please contact Paul Masse at pmasse@fanshawec.ca.  

What a fun way for high school students to gain some community service experience, so please suggest it to anyone you know who may be looking for more volunteer hours.

Horrorculture @ Ilderton Library - Tonight

Ron Rossini of London Middlesex Master Gardeners presents "Horrorculture" this program helps gardeners with a number of mistakes that can be made in plantings such as overplanting, planting too close to foundations, etc. 

This event takes place tonight - April 16th from 7-8pm at the Ilderton Library, 40 Heritage Drive.

Gardening is a great activity you can get your kids involved in!

Ilderton Spring Clean-up - April 28th

Hi Everyone!

 

The Optimist Club is looking for volunteers to help clean-up the stretch of Hyde Park road leading south of the village, as well as a bit of tidying and repair at the Junction Park gazebo on the main street on Saturday morning, April 28th.

Ilderton Scavenger Hunt

With the warmer weather here, the kids and I have been spending more time outside.  In an effort to keep my 3 year old entertained on our walks, I have devised a scavenger hunt.  This scavenger hunt will keep her busy on our walks and teach her about our neighbourhood.  

I created this in microsoft word and used clip art for the images.  I used images that we often see on our daily walks.  We have a park, pond and busy main street nearby.

After I printed it out in colour, I went to the dollar store and bought some lamination paper and gave my three year old a dry erase marker.  This will keep her busy for a couple of walks and cut down on garbage and reprinting.

The Best Seeds for Kids

So I have been doing some research about sowing seeds since I have been wanting to plant some seeds with my three year old.  I want to show her how a seed grows into a plant and to let them germinate in the house before we transfer it outside.

In my research, I have found the best seeds for kids are the following:

1. Zinnias
2. Marigolds
3. Cosmos
4. Sunflowers
5. Grass 
6. Mini Carrots
7. Zucchini
8. Cypress vine
9. Cucumbers 
10. Radish
11. Gourds or mini pumpkins
12. Green beans

I think that we are going to try the zinnias, cucumbers and the green beans. How about you? Try them out and let me know how it goes!

Blood Donor Clinic - April 3rd

I will never forget the first time I donated blood.  I was in high school and I was donating blood so I could get out of going to class.  I remember it vividly.  It was in the school gym and afterward I turned green and felt faint.  It was a horrible feeling but I knew what I was doing that day was a good thing.

The Ilderton and District Lions are sponsoring the blood drives that are run in Ilderton by the Canadian Blood Services.

These clinics are held every two months at the Community Centre. The goal is to collect over 50 pints of whole blood at each clinic.  Do your part and be apart of that 50.

The upcoming clinics for 2012 are on Tuesdays - April 3, June 5, August 7, October 2, December 4.  Add them to your calendar now.

Call 1888-2-donate to register or drop in on Tuesday April 3rd.

Donating blood is a worthwhile endeavor that helps our community. And you never know when you or a loved one might need it.
